Northern Line fleet upgrade complete

13 May 2015/Categories: CILT, Freight Forwarding, Rail, Transport Planning

Alstom has completed the modernisation of London Underground’s Northern Line train fleet.

The two-year mid-life refurbishment programme saw the interior and exterior renovation of 106 six-car trains, of which 96 are required for peak services.

The work took place at the Morden and Golders Green depots, which are managed by Alstom. It included reconfiguring seating to create wheelchair spaces and upgrading the passenger information system. According to Alstom, about 35 000 components were replaced on each train, and a total of 11 km of lino replaced, 15 688 windows polished to remove graffiti, and 27 500 seat backs changed.

‘Thanks to this refurbishment, Northern Line trains are looking better than ever before. Customers can now expect a cleaner and more comfortable environment to brighten up their journeys’, said Northern Line Trains Performance Manager Stevyn Walder.
