A crackdown on dangerous vehicles in the City has been launched by a new Commercial Vehicle Unit, which is run by the City of London Police and funded by Transport for London (TfL).
In its first month of operation, it has already stopped 136 vehicles and taken 95 dangerous vehicles off the road.
This comes as part of a wider string of measures to further improve road safety and take non-compliant and unsafe commercial vehicles off the roads.
TfL asserts that HGVs in particular are involved in a disproportionate number of collisions, particularly those involving vulnerable road users.
As a result, the organisation and its policing partners are committed to reducing such incidents through a combination of education and enforcement activity.
"We will be using all of our powers and intelligence networks to ensure vehicles that are not safe and compliant will no longer be able to operate," commented director of enforcement and on-street operations for TfL Steve Burton.
