A total of 43 distribution warehouses over 100,000 sq ft have been constructed, or are being built or are expected to be constructed, in the UK this year.
This is according to the latest research from Strutt & Parker, which specified that this will involve the delivery of a total 8.2 million sq ft of warehouse space.
Associate in national markets industrial agency at the organisation Nick Hardie said that in the wake of the economic downturn, the return to speculative development in the logistics sector has been slow.
He noted that increases in land and construction costs meant development has been restricted to key locations with limited supply and proven demand.
"The concentration of development in the traditional logistics hotspots of the Midlands and the south-east re-emphasises the caution that developers are taking in delivering logistics properties," he commented.
