NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) has announced the implementation of Calidus TMS transport management software from OBS Logistics.
Blood is collected from more than 3,000 donation venues in England and North Wales as part of the service - and it needs to be tested, processed, stored and delivered to 15 stock holding units for shipment.
It is then delivered to every NHS Trust in England and North Wales by NHSBT, which has a fleet of 220 vehicles.
Calidus - a complete solution from OBS Logistics - will be used for load planning and delivery capture, with transport resource optimisation provided by TomTom Webfleet and Telematics and DPS Logix.
Paul Taylor of NHSBT Logistics said: "We are implementing a transport management system that will make sure our transport network, supporting what is a complex logistical supply chain operation, is as effective and efficient as possible."
