Aldi - the sixth largest supermarket in the UK - will start to offer an online service for customers next year, in a move that is expected to shake up the grocery sector.
Starting with non-food offers and wine by the case in spring, the service is expected to expand in the future.
Record annual sales were announced by the German discount retailer for 2014 - and its move into ecommerce is likely to help it really make its impact felt among the big four food retailers.
Along with Lidl, the firm has been expanding aggressively in recent times, offering consumers cheaper alternatives to similar products found in Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda and Morrisons.
Matthew Barnes, chief executive officer of Aldi UK & Ireland, said: "Our unique model, operational efficiency, private ownership and financial strength mean we're able to keep investing in our business - from people and presence to products and prices."
