Defence minister Philip Dunne officially marked the start of construction work on a new £83 million military logistics centre in Donnington.
Food, clothing, general and medical supplies for the army will be stored at the state-of-the-art 80,000 sq m building, bringing military logistics, commodities and support services up to best practice industry standards.
Better storage and streamlined distribution will also be facilitated at the site, allowing for more efficient and effective processes throughout the supply chain.
Team Leidos will run the new Defence Fulfilment Centre, which is expected to take around one year to complete and house two warehouses that will eventually cover an area roughly equivalent to ten football pitches.
Mr Dunne said: "This forms part of our ten-year, £160 billion equipment plan, as well as our commitment to meeting NATO's defence investment pledge."
