Rail freight wagon provider VTG has signed an agreement with Mendip Rail for the hire of 130 new aggregate wagons.
The wagons supplied will be a mix of boxes and hoppers, which will be used to move stone from quarries in Somerset to a range of destinations up and down the country, including London and areas in the south-east.
Delivery of the wagons will commence in summer 2016 and help VTG to support the construction industry in facing new challenges.
VTG sales and marketing director Ian Shaw explained that construction is enjoying a period of growth, supported by positive performances in markets such as housing.
"These major projects specify the use of rail to transport materials and spoil during the construction phase, which is clearly the right thing to do and is beneficial to UK PLC in numerous ways," he commented, singling out reductions in carbon emissions and traffic congestion as examples of these benefits.
