South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE) has appointed Steve Edwards to the role of Executive Director, following endorsement by Sheffield City Region (SCR) Combined Authority. 

Steve joins SYPTE from a successful career at Liberata. He brings with him a wealth of experience in both the public and private sector, having worked in a range of service areas including business improvement, customer experience and operations.

Dave Young, who has held the role of SYPTE Interim Director General since April 2015, has chosen to leave the organisation at the end of November to pursue other opportunities. Dave has been at SYPTE for 13 years. 

The new, permanent role of Executive Director reflects a new focus for SYPTE as the lead organisation in South Yorkshire for operational public transport delivery. 

SYPTE’s remit is centred on providing public transport and customer service operations, and delivering the plans and strategies of the SCR Executive Team to the travelling public.

SCR’s transport strategy and policy functions, previously led by SYPTE, moved under the portfolio of the SCR Executive Team in May 2015.
