Women generally value themselves less than men when it comes to salary expectations for new roles, according to the findings of a study. 

Carried out by specialist global executive and interim management company Norrie Johnston Recruitment, the survey asked candidates on the firm's databases about their salary expectations. 

In like for like positions, women have lower expectations than men - and this trend was highlighted in the supply chain and procurement sector, among others. 

Here, males would expect to receive £120,000 for walking into a senior position, while their female counterparts would only think to get £100,000. 

Chief executive of Norrie Johnston Recruitment Graham Oates said this is cause for concern, particularly as some women seem to have difficulties developing their careers at the desired pace. 

"We want to ensure that all of our candidates are fairly evaluated for all roles and are properly remunerated based on the value that they can bring, irrespective of gender," he commented.
