Low capacity keeps transport prices high in 2015

25 November 2015/Categories: Industry News

Transport prices in the UK remain high as a result of low capacity, according to the latest Transport Market Monitor from Capgemini Consulting and Transporeon.

It was noted that this trend comes in spite of the fact that prices dropped by 4.1 per cent in the third quarter, compared with the previous three-month period.

The diesel index decreased by 5.4 per cent, leaving it at the lowest in six years.

However, the capacity index rose by 14.4 per cent, but remained low at 77.5, meaning prices remained at a high level.

Supply chain director at Capgemini Erik van Dort acknowledged that the slight decreases were the norm for the third quarter.

"The price decline from Q2 to Q3 of 4.1 per cent is larger than observed in previous years … due to the fact that the diesel price index has reached a record six-year low," he remarked.
