Norwich identified as leading Black Friday hotspot

02 December 2015/Categories: Industry News

National letter and parcel carrier Royal Mail has published new data confirming the top ten towns and cities where the most online shopping took place on Black Friday 2015.

Norwich led the pack, with Dorchester, Exeter, Bournemouth and Swansea rounding out the top five.

The next five places were Aberdeen, Torquay, Inverness, Taunton and Lancaster - and this data is based on parcels accepted from retailers and businesses into the Royal Network between November 27th and 28th.

Royal Mail took on 19,000 temporary staff to cope with this peak demand and increased its fleet by 15 per cent, or 6,800 extra vehicles.

All of these new recruits and trucks will be kept on to lend additional support throughout the festive season.

Head of Royal Mail parcels Nick Landon said: "We know there are more parcels still to come, but… more addresses in Norwich are set to welcome a Black Friday purchase than anywhere else in the UK."
