Backed by investment from Germany, a company in Manchester is building a new cotton-spinning line, in what is known as the spiritual home of the industry.

The £5.4 million investment, made by Culimeta-Saveguard and backed by money from the German government, is set to rebuild a north-west supply chain for luxury material clothing makers.

It's believed that the new mill will spin some of the most luxurious product on the market, due to the demand for high-quality material in the fashion industry.

The new mill is also going to create at least 100 jobs thanks to consumer interest in expensive British clothes and furnishings according to company general manager, Andy Ogden.

As manager of the new mill, Mr Ogden is intent on building a strong export, saying that "our roots are in technical textile manufacturing and we are in the perfect location to draw on a local workforce with the necessary skills".

Textiles is already a strong UK industry and Yorkshire's woollen industry is also going through a revival as the sector employs 100,000 people and has a value of £9 billion to the UK according to the British Financial Times.
