Route 159 now served by New Routemaster buses

15 December 2015/Categories: Industry News

In London, bus route 159 will become the most recent route in the city to be served entirely by New Routemaster buses.

The 24-hour bus route will convert to operate with New Routemaster as Abellio takes over as the new operator of the route.

Route 159 runs between Marble Arch and Streatham and during peak travel hours 35 of these buses will be in passenger service.

The state-of-the-art buses are set to carry 27,000 people who travel on this route every day.

So far, 17 bus routes in London are now operated under New Routemaster and the 159 route is a step towards the company's aim to deliver 800 of these buses to London's streets by next year.

By doing this, the bus service authority hopes to reduce carbon emissions in London by around 27,500 tonnes a year.

Plans to reduce the Capital's emissions include the installation of 1,700 hybrid models to its fleet, introducing ultra low emissions buses and retrofitting 2,000 older buses to reduce their NOx emissions by over 80 per cent per bus.
