Tesco staff may accept new offer

15 December 2015/Categories: Industry News

A strike by Tesco drivers and warehouse staff at Belfast and Doncaster has been called off and they may accept a new offer.

Unite had confirmed the strike by Tesco staff had been suspended, while members of the trade union were in talks about an improved offer on pay rises for them and their colleagues, according to Logistics Manager.

A spokesperson for the union said that they were likely to accept the new offer made by the supermarket chain, but were still waiting for concrete results.

The reason for the initial call for strike action, was due to the "pitiful" pay rises that Tesco's drivers and warehouse staff were due to receive.

Figures reported by Unite showed that the chain's staff were not due to receive any pay rise in 2015, and only a modest pay rise of 1.5 per cent in the new year.

Talks currently in place between Tesco, its staff and Unite are ensuring that the supermarket will not suffer from any breakdown to its supply chain before Christmas.
