Shelf-life technology targets fresh produce supply chain

03 February 2016/Categories: Industry News

Fresh Pod is a small product that sits inside consumers' homes to extend fresh food life but now the technology may be ready to benefit the European fresh produce sector.

Valerie Watson-Brown, creator of Fresh Pod, brought the technology to the UK and other parts of the world eight years ago to improve fresh goods in the home, reports Produce Business UK.

After training, Ms Watson-Brown believes that the technology can be of greater help to the wider market.

She said: "If it [the technology] can save the average consumer £480 a year, then it's going to save commercial growers tens of thousands of pounds."

Ms Watson-Brown commented that the pod is "safe, natural and organic [and] it can be used across the board for fruit, vegetable and flower crops".

The technological innovations by Ms Watson-Brown could prove helpful to Champions 12.3, the UN and charity collaboration, which aims to improve the UN's sustainable development by reducing food waste levels.
