Although operators of the Forth Road Bridge are to trial the reintroduction of HGVs, the Road Haulage Association has said it is disappointed that the length of trials is yet to be decided.

The trials will only allow a limited number of HGVs to cross the bridge and they will only be allowed to do so on its northbound section. The bridge's operators have said that the weather will indicate whether the trials will be able to go ahead.

Due to the conditions surrounding the trials and the previous problems with the bridge dating back to December 2015, the RHA estimates that the issues have cost the haulage industry more than £37 million.

Speaking on this, RHA chief executive Richard Burnett said: "The Scottish government must find the funds to compensate those operators who, through no fault of their own, have found themselves out of pocket for several months."

He added that the RHA believes the trials need to "bring a swift conclusion to the repair work undertaken", as the association is concerned that the bridge operators are not fast-tracking the reopening of the Forth Road Bridge.
