Experts say every stage of supply chain must become more efficient

09 February 2016/Categories: Industry News

"Zero waste" needs to become part of the lifeblood of every part of the UK supply chain, according to a new report.

Written by the All-Party Parliamentary Sustainable Resource Group (APSRG), this report focuses on supply chain efficiency in this country, reports Business Green.

The document outlines that eradicating waste from the supply chain needs to become an important issue for all companies, rather than leaving the sole responsibility to the waste disposal units at the end of the chain.

Anne-Marie Benoy, manager of the APSRG, said: "It's not just traditional companies that should be looking into waste issues but also manufacturers, logistics companies, communications companies.

"It's trying to move away from this idea that waste is only an issue that needs to be considered by traditional waste companies."

In order to combat this, Ms Benoy and Conservative MP and co-chair of the APSRG Peter Aldous believe that resource efficiency needs a publicity boost to bring the seriousness of the issue to the forefront of the minds of the government and of business owners in the supply chain.
