Chiltern railway to close temporarily for upgrade

17 February 2016/Categories: Industry News

Network Rail and Chiltern Railways have announced that the line between Leamington Spa, Banbury and Bicester North will be subject to a nine-day closure.

The railways connecting these stations are to benefit from a £76 million railway upgrade to help improve the reliability and timekeeping of trains throughout the Banbury area.

It's also hoped that the investment from Network Rail will improve services on the Chiltern main line, to create a better railway between Birmingham and London.

The line will be closed between Saturday 30th July and Monday 8th August when engineers are to update the Banbury rail system, which is to be controlled from the West Midlands Signalling Centre in Birmingham.

Closures in this area follow the work that took place last year, including when the same line was closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

Area director for Network Rail Liam Sumpter said: "This £76 million investment is key to modernise the railway through the Banbury area to provide passengers with a more reliable and modern railway."

In order to cause as little disruption as possible during this time, a replacement bus service will be offered to customers who would ordinarily use the train line.
