Rochester station officially opened

25 February 2016/Categories: Industry News

Rochester's new £26 million train station has been officially opened by HRH The Duke of Kent, after the building work was completed in December 2015.

Since the last month of last year, the station has already seen 250,000 journeys pass through it.

To open the station, the Duke of Kent arrived by train and was welcomed by Southeastern, Network Rail and Medway Council.

Speaking on the new station, Alasdair Coates, routes managing director at Network Rail, said: "Our investment in Rochester, as part of our Railway Upgrade Plan, will not only deliver big benefits for passengers using the station, but also provide a welcome boost to the wider Medway region."

The station was put in place to give residents in Rochester a better centre of railway transport and to allow the Medway area to grow.

The new station is also closer to the historic High Street, which makes it a great service for Rochester citizens and for the thousands of visitors that come to this area every year.
