Railway bridge in Cowbridge set to get a facelift

08 March 2016/Categories: Industry News

As part of Network Rail's £40 billion Railway Upgrade Plan, Cowbridge Road railway bridge in Bridgend is set to be refurbished to bring a bigger, better and more reliable railway for the train line's customers.

Staff from Network Rail will be carrying out essential repairs to the bridge, which has been damaged due to being struck repeatedly by various vehicles.

As well as structural changes, the bridge will also receive improvements to its appearance by stripping and repainting it.

For the refurbishment to go ahead, Cowbridge Road will be closed from Friday 11th to Monday 14th March and a diversion will be set up in its place.

The changes will also affect pedestrians, as access will not be granted to the footpaths under the bridge. Instead, a free shuttle bus will take pedestrians from one side of the bridge to the other.

Speaking on the updates, Rebecca Heeley, community relations manager for Network Rail Wales, said: "We have concentrated this essential work into as short a time-frame as possible to minimise disruption to our lineside neighbours, pedestrians and road users."
