Northern transport spring report shows success

11 March 2016/Categories: Industry News

The Northern transport strategy spring 2016 report has detailed the progress on major government investments in transport and road studies.

It includes updates on work from Transport for the North and the Department for Transport, according to the government website.

The report talks of progress on major government investment in transport across road and rail to support better journeys for passengers and also to stimulate economic growth in the north.

It also outlines plans for projects such as Northern Powerhouse rail and Smart North, which is a system that intends to help passengers switch between buses, trains and trams throughout the region in a way that is easy and cost-effective for consumers.

The government is investing £13 billion on transport projects across the north of England and one of the major areas of progress has been the upgrades it has been making to rail infrastructure.

This includes the electrification programme and track, station and signalling improvements to help provide faster and more frequent services across the region.

Chancellor George Osborne said: "John Cridland and his team have made enormous progress in the last year and this is a welcome report which shows both the improvements we have already made … as well as highlighting the potential to go much further."
