Hermes builds new facility in Bristol

13 April 2016/Categories: Industry News

Courier and delivery company Hermes has relocated a site from Somerset to build a new facility in Bristol.

The warehouse will be in Avonmouth, just outside of Bristol, and is set to measure 43,000 square feet, reports Logistics Manager.

A huge undertaking for Hermes, the new site is over twice as big as the company's previous depot.

Although the company had spent over two decades at its site in Portbury, it decided to expand to the south-west of England due to the projected amount of parcel volumes it has for this year.

By moving to Avonmouth, the company will be able to load on three different elevations, which will allow for efficient lean working practices.

From there, the business and its 50 employees will be able to process around 9.5 million packages every year.

Similarly, Hermes has relocated its Nursling depot to Hedge End, creating a specification facility and incorporating dock levelers and drive-in doors.

The new site in Hedge End will look to employ a team of 60 people and it hopes to process a volume of more than 10.8 million parcels annually.
