Accessible lifts transform South Tottenham station

21 April 2016/Categories: Industry News

South Tottenham, one of London's Overground stations, has been transformed by becoming the latest to introduce step-free access in the form of two new lifts.

The installation is part of a £2.5 million programme to make refurbishment changes to the whole station.

It was important for this to be one of the next stations to be fully accessible because of the 600,000 passengers who pass through it annually.

The refurbishments also include new walkways, further facilitating step-free access from the platform to the street.

Other improvements include a bike stand area outside the station, upgraded CCTV, a new gateline and a bigger working space for the station's staff.

Mike Stubbs, director of London Overground, said: "These new lifts will transform accessibility at South Tottenham station, benefitting families with young children and disabled people, as well as bringing a much-improved journey to thousands of Londoners every day."

Positive changes for accessibility across the capital include the introduction of manual boarding ramps, wide-aisle gates and raised platform sections to give level access to the trains of both the Overground and Underground networks.
