Tube Metropolitan line to receive upgrade

12 May 2016/Categories: Industry News

The London Underground - otherwise known as the Tube - has reminded its customers that it's set to receive major work from Monday 16th May.

It will aim to make the service more reliable and make overall journeys much quicker for passengers, according to Transport for London.

Currently, the condition and the drainage of the track between Baker Street and Finchley Road has become increasingly poor.

This area is known for flooding after periods of heavy rain, which is a regular cause of signal failures and therefore delays customers on a regular basis.

In order to fix the problem, engineers are going to replace over six km of track and drainage systems between these two stations.

To fast-track the solution, London Underground is extending its evening hours so that the changes can be completed in two years, compared to the seven it would take without doing this.

Extended hours will see the Metropolitan line close early Monday to Wednesday at around 10pm between Aldgate and Wembley Park, while early morning trains from Tuesdays to Thursdays may also be affected.
