Beatrice project sees UK on track for wind farm energy

24 May 2016/Categories: Industry News

Construction of the Beatrice offshore wind farm in Scotland has been given approval by developers, which will see the UK on track to secure its renewable energy needs.

At a cost of £2.6 billion, the project will help Britain on its way to secure ten per cent of its electricity from the offshore wind sector in just four years, reports Edie.net.

Situated in the Outer Moray Firth, the wind farm will begin its building in 2017 as a result of the partnership between SSE, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners and SDIC power.

The plans for giving the plans the green light were approved yesterday (23rd May) and it is now among the largest private investments made in Scottish infrastructure.

Once completed, the site will contain 84 turbines and will be able to power around 450,000 households, as well as generate £680 million for the UK economy through employment and various supply chain opportunities.
