Oxenholme railway reopens after spring bank holiday

31 May 2016/Categories: Industry News

Following updates by Network Rail workers, passengers will be able to enjoy a smoother and faster journey when they travel through Oxenholme.

Upgrades that the railway line received included replacing expired track and simplifying its layout to allow for more reliable services.

The railway reopened yesterday (30th May) and services resumed as normal from midday onwards.

Martin Frobisher, route managing director at Network Rail, said: "A large amount of work has taken place over the bank holiday weekend to replace life expired track to improve the track layout in the area, making it easier to maintain and services more reliable for passengers."

Over 9,000 members of Network Rail's team took to various lines across the country over the past weekend in order to deliver vital improvements as part of the company's Railway Upgrade Plan, not least of all in Cumbria.

A total of £30 million was invested over the three days to see track renewal, upgraded signalling systems and an increase in the capacity of the network to allow more trains to run in the future.
