Celebrating four years of flight on the Emirates Air Line

29 June 2016/Categories: Industry News, Active Travel & Travel Planning, Aviation, Transport Planning

The Emirates Air Line, which crosses the River Thames at North Greenwich, was opened in 2012 to coincide with the London Olympics and allowed passengers to travel between The O2 and ExCeL London arenas.

Since then London's only cable car has welcomed millions of customers, who have enjoyed the views and experience of travelling 90 metres above the capital.

As well as proving popular with Londoners and tourists, some notable celebrities have also taken to the skies. These include Arnold Schwarzenegger, singer Jessie Ware, boxer David Haye, and tennis star Novak Djokovic.

Danny Price, head of the Emirates Air Line, said: 'We have welcomed seven million visitors and with the continuing local developments we hope to welcome many more passengers in the coming years.'

The Emirates Air Line is open from 7am on weekdays, 8am on Saturdays and 9am on Sundays. From July 3, flights will run until 11pm every night. The nearest Tube station is North Greenwich, or hop on a boat to North Greenwich Pier.
