Crossrail 2 issues still being worked out, says TfL

12 July 2016/Categories: Industry News

No final decisions have been made over the proposed Crossrail 2 route; that’s the main message from transport authorities responding to issues raised during a recent consultation.

Transport for London (TfL) and Network Rail say that many of the complex engineering and infrastructure challenges are still being worked out.

Crossrail 2 aims to ease rail congestion by connecting the West Anglia and South Western main lines via London Victoria and King's Cross St Pancras stations. It is expected to open some time after 2030.

The public consultation sparked almost 21,000 responses, raising concerns about station locations, entrances and exits for the tunnelled section of the proposed route, and disruption to existing National Rail services.

Michèle Dix, TfL's managing director for Crossrail 2, said that the views expressed will help shape a railway that meets the scheme’s strategic needs and the needs of local people.

Chris Curtis, Network Rail's head of Crossrail 2, added that the responses will be used to develop proposals and maximise benefits for passengers “across London, Surrey, Hertfordshire and beyond”.
