Simulation Forum

A professional group concerned with the promotion of simulation and modelling as a powerful means in the analyses and optimisation of transport and logistics processes.

  • To promote activities that advance the practice of simulation and modelling  as a means of analysing and optimising the movement of people and goods
  • To highlight and disseminate good practice, guidance and experience through publications, submissions to Focus and other relevant journals and web outlets, including shorter and longer articles, opinion pieces, reports of events, visits and study tours, and short videos.
  • To respond to consultations at local, national and international level as appropriate on matters in connection with simulation and the promotion of simulation as a means of analysis in the movement of people and goods, and to publicise those responses.
  • Forge appropriate links with government departments of the four constituent countries of the United Kingdom and agencies of the BIS linked with simulation and use, local government associations, trade bodies, users groups, professional bodies and associations, the logistics industry, law enforcement agencies, the healthcare sector and professional bodies which have an interest in similar purposes, to contribute to shaping policy.
  • Forge appropriate links with other CILT Forums, Regions and Public Policy Committees.
  • To act as a point of reference for information on simulation and international good practice.

In order to pursue these purposes, the Simulation Forum will be operated by a committee and that committee will elect its Chair. Wherever practical, the Simulation Forum will pursue its objectives by working closely with the many other organisations and bodies concerned with the promotion of simulation. The Committee will be supported by additional members of the Forum to assist with key projects, as necessary.

  • Develop and promote suitable forum events addressing topical issues
  • Networking
  • Maintain the Forum’s Webpage
  • Professional development
  • Social media groups
  • Define how industry and academia use simulation, modelling and optimisation – applying tools and methods for commercial use or to improve society; taking thinking forward at the frontier of application, adding something extra/new.
  • Provide case studies on how customers are using software differently from how they envisaged it being used; share best practice, lessons learnt, define and explorethe hurdles to using simulation
  • Collaboration: organisations / people being prepared to share data – commercial sensitivities and legalities as barriers etc. establish how to break down human and commercial barriers to collaboration
