Welcome to the Railway Study Forum

CILT's latest professional Forum (RSF) has been created following a merger with the Railway Study Association (RSA).

The new Forum offers RSF members all the benefits offered previously by the RSA, but also the opportunity to engage with CILT members through our network of like-minded Rail Sector professionals. You can find out more about joining CILT here

Who are we?

Our membership includes individuals with a wide range of backgrounds and expertise, embracing operations, engineering, business planning, project management, marketing and consultancy. Now that we have merged with CILT's membership, we are able to engage with a wider network of people working in the Rail Sector.

Aims

The CILT RS Forum promotes the exchange of experience, knowledge and opinion on issues relating to all aspects of the railway industry.

How do we do this?

  • We arrange a variety of meetings, ranging from formal lectures followed by a question and answer session to seminars, to stimulate member engagement.
  • We organise visits and study tours to railway sites and installations both in the UK and abroad to promote understanding.
  • We encourage personal and professional development through informal networking.

The Railway Study Forum has put together a breath-taking programme of stimulating, scintillating and exhilarating events from across the railway spectrum of Australia, as a two-centre trip based in Sydney from 14 to 18 October and in Melbourne from 20 to 25 October 2019.

The study visit enables key learning about rail, road, maritime and logistics in Australia, in an action-packed way. Enjoy the visit alongside International railway experts from all disciplines – a chance in a lifetime – not to be missed! Come one, come all – young, old and everyone in between – only together can we learn and innovate for the next generation of railways.

The tour starts and finishes in Australia, allowing delegates to choose their own tailor-made preference for travel and airport of entry.

Highlights of the visit include:   New construction for Sydney and Melbourne metros, Hunter Valley Coal Chain in Newcastle, 'Secret Train Tunnels', Barangaroo Delivery Authority, a walk over the Sydney Harbour Bridge with experts describing its history and maintenance, a tour of the Port of Melbourne, a trip on the Victorian Goldfields Railway, and a drive along the spectacular Great Ocean Road.  The trip would not be complete without visiting the largest tram network in the world at Yarra Depot in Melbourne with a special tram tour ending at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

Attendance for the full programme will qualify for approx. 40 hours of CPD.
