Welcome to Women in Logistics

A message from the CILT Women in Logistics (WiL) Chair: Ruth Waring FCILT

The Women in Logistics (WiL) vision is to:

“Improve the lives of women in logistics in the UK and address gender imbalance, enabling the logistics industry to benefit from female talent.”

The WiL mission is to:

Attract, retain and support women working in logistics and promote the broader diversity agenda
Provide opportunities for the logistics industry, and other key stakeholders, to support women working in the sector and identify and address the challenges to recruitment and retention

The objectives of the forum are to:

  • Connect – Provide networking and professional development events
  • Engage – To provide a voice for women working in logistics and to address, from a female perspective, key challenges the profession faces
  • Inspire – Provide an inclusive and encouraging environment to nurture female talent within the sector

From humble beginnings in 2008, Women in Logistics has grown to a membership of nearly 4,000. In 2014, the organisation started a process of restructuring in order to cope with the size and to enable us to continue to grow and serve our members. In 2018, Women in Logistics became incorporated into the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT UK), creating a wider platform to extend our reach and continue to engage, connect and inspire the profession.

We are Women in Logistics 9 March 2018

In celebration of both the incorporation of Women in Logistics into CILT UK, and of International Women’s Day, University of Hull hosted “We are Women in Logistics” on Friday 9th March 2018. The event started with a stirring introduction from Professor Kathryn Haynes, Dean of the Faculty of Business, Law and Politics at University of Hull. The first speaker, Bethany Fovargue, Operations Manager, NOVUS, shared her career journey to date in logistics. By asking, “What does your personal brand say about you?”, Bethany encouraged the 30 attendees to think about where they added value to their businesses and how this awareness can support future career development. Next up was Jennifer Moss, Operations Manager, XPO Logistics and staunch supporter of She’s RHA. She’s RHA celebrates women in haulage by providing a platform where women can connect and empower themselves. Finally, Cathy Day, former Director of Global Supply Chain at ThermoFisher shared her seven steps to success. Most notably, the difference between a sponsor and a mentor was brought to the fore; a mentor supports you, but a sponsor champions you in a business, and is, therefore, a strong ally to have! An welcoming, informative and inspirational event was had by all, with thanks to University of Hull for their hospitality.
