Emma joined HS2 Ltd in August 2015 as a member of the Executive Team and has had a variety of leadership roles within the organisation including Technical Service Delivery Director, before joining the HS2 Board as Chief Railway Officer.

Emma has worked in the UK railway industry since 1999 and was previously Director of Safety Strategy at Network Rail, where she delivered a step change in workforce and passenger safety performance, operational improvements at level crossings across the UK network, and assured the delivery of critical asset improvement programmes. 

Emma has a wealth of experience from a client and contractor perspective, and has contributed to major railway engineering schemes, including West Coast route modernisation and London’s Crossrail project.

Before moving client side, Emma held various roles in large Tier 1 and 2 Contractors, working across the construction and rail sectors.

Clare Bottle is CEO since 2021 of the UK Warehousing Association and Vice-Chair of Women in Logistics UK, which she co-founded 15 years ago with Ruth Wareing during a career that has taken her through the chemicals, construction and food & drink sectors.  Her strategic leadership experience stems from varied board-level involvement at CILT, Transaid and chairing a school board. At UKWA, which she joined from Coca-Cola Europacific Partners, she has pursued an agenda of economic, social and environmental sustainability, as well as driving diversity and inclusion. At the 2023 CILT Awards for Excellence, Clare won the prestigious Sir Robert Lawrence Award, which recognises the lifetime achievement of an individual, for their outstanding and sustained contribution to the profession of logistics and transport. The Year of Warehousing is a high pro-file, year-long campaign to highlight the critical role of warehousing in supply chains, the sector’s major contribution to the UK economy, the essential employment of 1m people, and the key role it is set to play in embracing solar power to achieve UK’s net zero goals. It coincides with the 80th anniversary of the Association’s inception in 1944, and includes an ambitious programme of 80 site visits across the UK by Clare, whose aim is to showcase the high tech, fast-moving working environ-ments inside UK’s warehouses.

Thames Valley Group are privileged to have secured Alia Garaibeh, Regional Director for the Middle East how the HELP Logistics team, part of the Swiss Based Kuhne Foundation, is contributing  to the thought leadership that is shaping future humanitarian supply chains.



Humanitarian actors today face a multitude of operational and environmental risks that can result in supply chain disruptions. Building resilient supply chains is key to ensuring the availability of life-saving commodities and begins with understanding the operating environment and the contextual factors that make them susceptible to disruptions. 

In this talk, Alia Gharaibeh introduces the tools and methodologies developed by HELP Logistics for the benefit of the humanitarian community. Including the Supply Chain Resilience (SCR) tool, an approach to simulate potential disruptions to humanitarian supply chains that can empower organizations to enhance supply chain resilience proactively. 

These insights inform the creation of data-driven supply strategies that offer a roadmap for organizations to mitigate risks, reduce disruptions, and ensure aid reaches vulnerable populations, even in the most challenging environments.



HELP Logistics is a subsidiary company of the Kühne Foundation. Since 2016, HELP Logistics has established four regional offices; Singapore (Asia), Amman (Middle East), Nairobi (East Africa) and Dakar (West Africa). From these centres, dedicated supply chain and logistics experts partner with a range of government, academic and professional institutions.

Alia Gharaibeh is a seasoned professional with a master’s degree in industrial engineering and over 15 years of managerial experience in leading regional and international organisations in the Middle East. She is the first SCM ITC-certified Supply Chain Manager in Jordan, a prestigious certification granted by the International Trade Centre and the United Nations.

With her extensive background in shipping and retail, Ms Gharaibeh founded her own business consultancy company, providing valuable advice and training to Jordanian SMEs. She has also played a pivotal role in implementing national capacity-building projects for USAID. As a lecturer at the German Jordanian University (GJU), she mentored aspiring logistics professionals and imparted knowledge on supply chain, logistics, and operations management.


Ms Gharaibeh's exemplary leadership skills have been recognised through invitations to prestigious fellowships, including the Arab American Business, John Smith Rule of Law (UK), Common Purpose (UK), and Vital Voices (US). Over the past eight years, she has actively contributed to the humanitarian sector through technical assistance and capacity building initiatives. As the Middle East Regional Director of HELP Logistics, she continues to advance supply chain management in the region significantly.

When Anthony Smith announced his decision to step down from the helm at Transport Focus from the end of 2023, the chair Nigel Stevens said: “Anthony has dedicated almost 25 years to representing transport users. Transport Focus has become a trusted voice on their behalf, advocating in their interest and holding transport operators to account. The Board and colleagues are grateful for the commitment, leadership and passion Anthony has provided through a period of great change. He will leave Transport Focus in a strong position to face the challenges ahead.”

Now Anthony is Chair of the Heathrow Area Transport Forum, Independent Rail Retailers, National Transport Awards and Customer Service Excellence category at the National Rail Awards. He will reflect for us on how consumer representation in the transport sector has evolved so as to make the best use of all the communication tools now available.
