The Future of Bus Services in Stoke-on-TrentBOOK NOW

The 1st of September 2022 marks a major change to the Staffordshire Group’s annual programme of events, not least to welcome a new Group Chairman, Samir Dani FCILT, Professor of Operations Management at Keele University, Staffordshire.  


The occasion will also mark the departure of our current Chairman, Andrew Dartnell FCILT, standing down after having been our Group Chairman since 1997. The handover to the new Chairman will be followed by a presentation by Brian Edwards, Team Manager (Transport & Planning, Housing Development and Growth) from Stoke-on-Trent City Council, who will speak on ‘The future of bus services in Stoke-on-Trent’.


Brian will be presenting details of proposals to implement the City Council’s successful bids from the ‘Transforming Cities Fund’ (£29m) and the ‘Bus Service Improvement Plans and Enhanced Partnership’ (£31m).

Here is a chance to hear from several members of the Environment and Sustainability Forum on who they are and what environmental/sustainability issues they encounter in their day jobs. The intention is to keep each presentation very short and then have a discussion at the end. The session is designed for two purposes, firstly to act as an introduction to several people and hence prompt networking and secondly to hear how some companies are dealing with various aspects of decarbonisation and the need to be more environmentally friendly in how we do business. 
The presentation will be followed by a question and answer session.

The West Midlands Rail Investment Strategy – An UpdateBOOK NOW

Speaker: Peter Sargant, Head of Rail Development, West Midlands Rail Executive

Peter Sargant, Head of Rail Development at West Midlands Rail Executive (WMRE), will be talking about the Executive’s updated Rail Investment Strategy. WMRE is the regional rail authority reporting to 14 local authority partners and chaired by the Mayor. WMRE co-manages the West Midlands Trains rail contract with the DfT, oversees the £200M+ West Midlands Rail Programme investing in new and upgraded stations, and also develops plans for the future. Peter leads the team developing plans for the future, covering services, infrastructure, fares and wider rail policy. The 30-year Rail Investment Strategy is the key document outlining WMRE’s vision for how the network should develop in a post-Covid world, reflecting the impact of HS2, Midlands Rail Hub and other drivers of change.
