The handover to the new Chairman will be followed by a presentation by Brian Edwards, Team Manager (Transport & Planning, Housing Development and Growth) from Stoke-on-Trent City Council, who will speak on ‘The future of bus services in Stoke-on-Trent’.Brian will be presenting details of proposals to implement the City Council’s successful bids from the ‘Transforming Cities Fund’ (£29m) and the ‘Bus Service Improvement Plans and Enhanced Partnership’ (£31m). WMRE is the regional rail authority reporting to 14 local authority partners and chaired by the Mayor. WMRE co-manages the West Midlands Trains rail contract with the DfT, oversees the £200M+ West Midlands Rail Programme investing in new and upgraded stations, and also develops plans for the future. Peter leads the team developing plans for the future, covering services, infrastructure, fares and wider rail policy. The 30-year Rail Investment Strategy is the key document outlining WMRE’s vision for how the network should develop in a post-Covid world, reflecting the impact of HS2, Midlands Rail Hub and other drivers of change.
