TONY CARTER, FCILT

Tony started his working life in 1966 as a Trainee Insurance Claims Broker in the City but after three years, moved to become a trainee pub manager with Courage (Eastern).

His real interest being in the passenger transport field, he left that trade and joined Eastbourne Borough Council Transport Department on 1st May 1974 as a lowly Stats Clerk wishing to professionally qualify with what was then the CIT. 29 years later having climbed the ladder and become Admin & Personnel Manager and Chairman of the Management Team, he was offered early retirement, and he “officially“ retired in 2003 from what by then had become Eastbourne Buses Ltd, but a further two year stint was spent with the company as part time Head of Human Resources; he concluded his time there in 2005. He spent a further few years with a new company, Cavendish Motor Services Ltd, before it was bought by Stagecoach.

His CILT experience has seen him a member of Council, a member of the Examination Panel, the first South East Regional Chairman, a Branch Chair and now a Branch Committee member.

Whilst his career has been with passenger road transport, he is also keenly interested in rail transport, particularly the technical side of things.

ROBBIE O’BRIEN, CMILT

Robbie OBrien

After graduating with an MSc in Transport Planning & Management, Robbie began his career as a graduate consultant at the public and passenger transport specialists, MCL Transport Consultants Ltd. Whilst a member of the consultancy team he was involved in numerous projects relating to the England National Concessionary Travel Schemes (ENCTS), data and survey analysis, Transport Assessment for a housing development and bespoke operator software installation.

After holding the position for 14 months he was then promoted in September 2012 to lead the data systems and revenue team. Since then he has supervised the team who are in day to day contact with operators – receiving, checking and analysing data whilst ensuring that supporting information such as route maps, timetables and fare tables are provided. The team are primarily responsible for the production of quarterly ENCTS accounts, in accordance with the DfT’s ‘Guidance on reimbursing bus operators’ and individual scheme arrangements.

Robbie continues his individual work outside of the team – maintaining the multi-year forecasting model for schemes administered by updating them with the latest data, statistics and trends, setting up and administering a new accounting system for reimbursement of a youth card scheme, overseeing the re-writing of bespoke company software and has been jointly responsible for ZoneCard revenue allocation on behalf of Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) since 2017.

In addition, Robbie has also mentored multiple apprentices studying for their initial AAT qualification, one of whom is currently on course to complete their ACCA diploma in professional studies as a graduate of University of Brighton.

Outside of MCL he has been a chartered member of the CILT since May 2016 and a member of the CILT Sussex Group committee since May 2018.
