COP26 – is the transport industry accelerating fast enough to address the Climate Emergency?
Start Date:13 Oct 2021
End Date:13 Oct 2021
Event Code:ESF0321
Description:

When: Wednesday 13th October, 16:00 - 18:00
Where: Zoom webinar

COP26 comes at a critical time in the challenge of halting dangerous climate change. The devastation from severe floods and wildfires, coupled with extreme heat with record breaking temperatures in many parts of the world, bring into sharp focus the urgent need to take action. With this as a backdrop there is much that needs to be achieved in the discussions at COP26 to drive real action that creates positive change. As an industry we have a huge role to play and we have brought together a number of fantastic speakers who will give a transport perspective covering the themes being discussed at COP26.

The session will start with a key note speaker, Martin Baxter, Director of Policy and External Affairs and deputy CEO of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment, following on with experts discussing; Achieving Net Zero, Adapting to protect communities and natural habitats, Mobilising finance to support sustainability and Working together to deliver targets.

We aim to have time to encourage discussion, and we’d like you to consider for debate: what one thing would you like to say to the decision makers at COP26?

Keynote speaker:
Martin Baxter, IEMA. Martin will provide an overview of the aims and objectives of COP26 generally and what the UK aims to get out of it and his hopes for the agreements made.

Speakers:
Kevin Richardson, Chief Exec, CILT(UK)
Working together to deliver targets
Kevin will discuss the role of CILT (and professional bodies generally) to promote collaboration – between people, organisations, sectors and governments

Paul Le Blond, Chair, CILT(UK) Aviation Policy Group
Achieving Net Zero
In February 2021, CILT published a Year End report summarizing our activity to date. Our conclusions and views have used extensively in consultation responses, evidence to Parliamentary committees and other published papers. A new set of updates is in preparation for publication in the run up to COP26 and Paul will present some of the key updates.

Kevin McPherson, Asset Management Consultant, TRL
Adapting to protect communities and natural habitats
Kevin will discuss climate risk assessments and climate adaptation in the logistics context, exploring how future scenarios may impact UK roads and what that may mean for logistics companies.

Dr Nishatabbas Rehmatulla, Senior Research Fellow, UCL Energy Institute
Mobilising finance to support sustainability
Nish will talk about Green Finance, and how financiers integrate climate mitigation and climate resilience into their decision making process when funding logistics capital investments
