Description:
When: 29 April 2022 09:30 - 16:30 including options for afternoon site visits and optional workshops Where: University of Gloucestershire, Francis Close Hall, Swindon Road, Cheltenham, GL50 4AZ Speaker: Various
This unique event brings together professionals and placemakers from a wide range of disciplines to look at how we can better connect people living in new communities to each other, and their nearby towns and cities. It focuses on the vital importance of listening to the needs of residents and the wider social and wellbeing issues that arise – as well as creative ways to provide transport solutions that match those needs.
We’re bringing together professionals from CILT’s transport planning, passenger transport, active travel and travel demand management fields alongside community rail partnerships, local government, town and parish council representatives, and the university research sector.
As placemakers the one thing that unites us is working together to create sustainable places and communities, where the transport connections and choices enable people to live the lifestyles they need. With the impact of Covid-19 bringing about even more isolation and disconnection, now is the time for us to actively listen and adopt new, more effective ways of engagement.
This is free event kindly made possible by GCRP and the University of Gloucestershire, using funding from GWR and Cross Country Trains grant towards GCRP’s Connecting New Communities project.
The event will be hybrid with the University onsite sessions accessible through Teams and the event will also be recorded. Spaces limited to approx. 50 on site on a first come first served basis with all booking via CILT UK’s events team. We are publicising to the CILT UK Transport Planning faculty members, Active Travel, Bus and Coach, Rail, TDM Forums and the relevant regions.
Getting to the venue and about our home for the day: We will be using the architecture and planning suite which will allow for breakout groups and theatre style learning. The room is fully accessible with a lift to the first floor, with toilet facilities and plenty of light and space.

There is a taxi rank at the station, National Express and Megabus coach services also serve Cheltenham and the main coach station is only a 10-minute walk away.
