After 25 years in the road materials manufacturing industry, John took the opportunity presented by redundancy in 2000 to start an MBA at Kingston University. The part-time position he took up to provide material for assignments and his dissertation rapidly evolved into a challenging and rewarding career in logistics which we will hear about in John’s presentation.

In the past twenty-three years John has planned and delivered solutions on world tours for Coldplay, Ed Sheeran, Hugh Jackman, David Bowie, Beyoncé, and Celine Dion whilst being a member of the team’s working on tours for U2, The Rolling Stones, AC/DC, Shakira, Madonna, Walking with Dinosaurs, and many others. 

John will explain the processes gone through to develop the best multimodal mix for the movements of complete shows between continents and within some of the regions of the world.  He will highlight some solutions created to address challenges in proposed tour plans, where the regular scheduled services available, could not achieve the required door to door transit times. Finally, some instances where proactive monitoring by Global Motions of events impacting on carrier progress allowed early intervention to prevent shows being postponed or cancelled.

In 2017 he was called on to summarise the potential impact of BREXIT on the live event industry with particular emphasis on European tour logistics and was invited to accompany UK Music’s live group to meetings with the Department of Culture Media and Sport to review the report he had written. Despite him identifying all the major challenges to post BREXIT event logistics frustratingly none were resolved before the UK left the EU.
