Logistics industry needs to do more to encourage new talent, poll finds

03 August 2016/Categories: Industry News

The logistics industry isn’t doing enough to attract and nurture fresh blood, according to a survey conducted by LogisticsManager.com.

Fewer than one in five (18 per cent) respondents to the website’s Twitter poll agreed that the sector was pulling its weight when it comes to recruiting and training new people.

The social media snap poll comes in reaction to a separate survey which found that most parents don’t want their children to become truck drivers.

Both these surveys follow last week’s report from the House of Commons Transport Committee which claimed that not enough was being done to address the shortfall in skilled drivers.

It is believed that the shortage is down to the haulage industry’s image problem, which makes it less attractive than in previous years.

Low wages and sub-standard roadside facilities were also blamed for the poor stream of new drivers entering the profession.
