Any new parent using public transport will quickly realise that baby buggies can cause a huge amount of hassle when getting on trains and buses.
Transport for London recognised this and invited parents to vote for their top five public transport-friendly buggies out of a shortlist compiled by Netmums and other parents websites.
Out of more than 700 votes, the five buggies that were considered to be the easiest to fold, the lightest and most manoeuvrable were Mothercare’s XSS Stroller, BabyZen’s YoYo+ 6+, CuddleCo’s Doona, UPPAbaby’s Cruz, and the Bugaboo bee3.
Mike Weston, TfL’s director of buses, said the scheme was about helping all passengers, not just those struggling with unsuitable buggies.
He commented: “We hope that through this public vote parents will be easily able to identify compact, lightweight foldable and safe buggies, which fit comfortably through the aisle of a bus and can easily be folded if needed to give wheelchair users priority in their dedicated space.”
