A courageous commuter who jumped on London’s tube tracks to save the life of an ill man is being sought by British Transport Police (BTP). Not because he’s in trouble, but because they want to express their thanks.

Just before 5pm on Tuesday 16th August, a 47-year old man on Tottenham Court Road station’s northbound Northern line platform suddenly became unwell, stumbled, and fell on to the tracks.

After witnessing the man’s fall, a brave bystander quickly jumped on to the tracks and pulled the ill man back onto the platform to safety.

Paramedics treated the fallen man at the scene, before he was whisked off to hospital and he is now expected to make a full recovery, after receiving only light cuts and bruises.

Brave actions

BTP superintendent Chris Horton warned that going onto the tracks is extremely dangerous but the man’s fast actions had most likely saved a life.

"Whilst the approaching train was immediately put on a red signal, the quick thinking of him and other passengers on the platform avoided what could have been a tragedy,” he commented.

“On behalf of everyone at British Transport Police, I’d like to commend this man for his brave actions.”
