myHermes will take on Royal Mail in the consumer marketplace by changing its parcel weight bands for smaller and medium sized parcels.
Before the change, myHermes charged customers on the weight of the package on an incremental scale ranging from ‘up from 1kg’ for the lightest items, ‘up to 2kg’ for slightly heavier parcels, right ‘up to 15kgs’.
The weight revision should mean that customers have the chance to benefit from choosing the carrier that offers the best value when sending parcels of different sizes.
Despite the new weight bands, pricing will remain unchanged with existing benefits such as track-and-trace and free parcel cover up to the value of £25.
Eoin Kenneally, head of ecommerce at myHermes, said: “This adjustment brings our parcel weight bands in line with many of our competitors and will therefore provide sole traders, SMEs and independent retailers with the ability to better compare shipping costs.”
Mr Kenneally added that the move would add transparency to the parcel market and help consumers receive true value for money.
