Talkin’ bout my transportation - The Who moved by IAG Cargo during US tour

23 August 2016/Categories: Industry News

IAG Cargo has outlined the logistical demands that went into transporting equipment for The Who during the classic rock band’s recent 50th anniversary tour in the US.

The company has been handling logistics for The Who for over 25 years. However, being responsible for shifting 36 tonnes - the equivalent to two Boeing 747s - worth of equipment for 65 shows spread over five months and 100,000 miles is no mean feat.

David Shepherd, head of commercial at IAG Cargo, said that speed, reliability and attention to detail were critical to pulling off the operation.

He explained: “Having worked with The Who’s logistics team for more than a quarter of a century, we are well practiced in ensuring that every piece of equipment reaches the right place at the right time and in perfect condition.”

Mr Shephard added that the anniversary tour served as a great opportunity to showcase the efficiency and consistency of its North American network.

Roy Lamb, The Who’s production manager, commented that the band and crew appreciated how the backstage logistics operated so seamlessly and punctually.

“It was a momentous tour and our partnership with IAG Cargo played an important role in its success,” he concluded.
