Have you ever wondered why they don’t have any music playing in airport security areas? That’s not for security reasons as such and there’s no formal music ban in what is obviously a hugely sensitive and serious element of air travel.
However, London City Airport has tried to lighten the mood for passengers by becoming the first UK airport to play music in the main security search area.
The soundtrack to security will switch between two different playlists - ‘ambient electronic’ or ‘upbeat acoustic music’ - the latter of which includes hits from Adele, Ed Sheeran, Ben Howard, Jason Mraz and Gavin James.
Melanie Burnley, director of customer experience at London City Airport, said: “It takes passengers just 20 minutes or less to get from the front door of London City Airport to the departure lounge, and we wanted to enhance the customer experience with a soundtrack to security.”
The response has been very positive so far, added Mrs Burnley, with Ed Sheeran currently the most popular artist.
