Hitachi Rail Europe has released time-lapse footage of its £80 million Doncaster depot being built. Volker built the facility, with 2,000 people employed on the job.
The site is 11,000m2 in size, can hold up to 24 five-car trains on site, and has a wheel lathe and train washing facility.
The facility was built on the site of the former Doncaster Carr depot, and is currently being used to commission Intercity Express Programme trains. In the future, it will maintain IEPs for Virgin Trains East Coast and AT300 bi-modes for TransPennine Express.
HRE aims to employ 250 staff at the £80 million depot. The company chose Doncaster as both it and the wider region “have a range of industries employing people with skills that HRE is looking for.”
