iPort's Amazon facility announced finalist in 2017 Logistics Awards

02 August 2017/Categories: CILT, Industry News, Freight Forwarding, Logistics & Supply Chain, Operations Management

Verdion has been announced a finalist in the 2017 Logistics Awards, in the ‘New Facility’ category, for the 1.3 million sqft of logistics space leased by Amazon at the iPort logistics scheme in Doncaster.

The Logistics Awards, run by SHD Logistics Magazine, are designed to recognise operational excellence and celebrate the very best companies within the logistics and supply chain sectors, with winners chosen by a panel of independent judges.

The new Amazon facility, for which Verdion is nominated, forms part of iPort, Verdion’s 6 million sq ft Strategic Rail Freight Interchange in the logistical centre of the UK – Doncaster. The site, which is now under Phase 2 of construction, includes design-and-build and speculatively built units.

In 2016, Verdion signed a deal with Amazon to lease two units at iPort totalling 1.3 million sqft: a 214,600 sq ft speculatively built fulfilment centre, along with a bespoke design and build warehouse (with office space) totalling 1.1 million sq ft – the size equivalent of 14 football pitches.

The building design is state of the art, bringing Verdion’s continental standards, material and sub-contractors to this UK project, while the deal itself represented one of the largest UK logistics transactions of 2016.

The results of the 2017 Logistics Awards will be announced in a ceremony on September 21st at the Grange St Paul’s Hotel, London.
