Amazon to create 1,200 new permanent jobs

18 October 2017/Categories: CILT, Industry News, Freight Forwarding, Logistics & Supply Chain

Amazon has announced plans to open a new fulfilment centre in Bolton in 2018 and begin recruitment for 1,200 new, full-time permanent jobs.

The investment in a new fulfilment centre in Bolton will take the total number of permanent jobs Amazon has created in the North West of England to more than 3,500.

“Our ability to expand in the North West of England is the result of two things: incredible customers and an outstanding workforce,” said Stefano Perego, Amazon’s Director of UK Customer Fulfilment. “We are thrilled to begin recruitment for 1,200 new permanent roles in Bolton with competitive wages and comprehensive benefits starting on day one.”

Bolton will be equipped with advanced Amazon Robotics technology. The robots slide under a tower of shelves where products are stowed, lift it and move it through the fulfilment centre. Find out more about Amazon Robotics here.

Amazon has started recruiting for a range of new roles for the fulfilment centre, including operations managers, engineers, HR and IT specialists. The team at Amazon in Bolton who will pick, pack and ship customer items such as books, toys and kitchenware will be recruited in 2018 and people interested in applying for jobs at Amazon should visit www.myamazonjob.com/fulfillment-centers/bolton

All permanent Amazon fulfilment centre employees earn £8.15 an hour or more after two years of employment, with pay increasing from a starting salary of £7.65 an hour and above. In addition, all permanent employees working in the company’s fulfilment centres receive stock grants, which over the last five years were equal to £1,000 or more per year per employee. Employees are offered a comprehensive benefits package, including private medical insurance, life assurance, income protection, subsidised meals and an employee discount, which combined are worth more than £700 annually, as well as a company pension plan.

Amazon also offers employees an innovative programme called Career Choice that provides employees funding for adult education, offering to pre-pay 95% of tuition and associated fees for nationally recognised courses, up to £8,000 over four years.

Last year Amazon announced that it would open fulfilment centres in Daventry, Doncaster, Warrington and Tilbury in 2017, creating more than 3,500 new permanent full time jobs.  The Daventry site opened in February while Doncaster, Warrington and Tilbury have recently started their operations.

Amazon is increasing the size of its UK fulfilment centre network to meet increasing customer demands, expand selection and enable SMEs selling on Amazon Marketplace to scale their business.

Amazon’s has invested £6.4 billion in the UK since 2010 in its UK-based research and development, head office and fulfilment and logistics infrastructure.
