Zebra delivering greater accuracy, efficiencies with launch of Route Optimization Solution

20 November 2017/Categories: CILT, Industry News, Freight Forwarding, Logistics & Supply Chain, Operations Management

At an open webinar on 30th November 2017, Zebra Technologies will unveil its Route Optimization Solution (ROS).

Built with industry-leading mapping technology, Zebra is launching ROS in response to a growing number of challenges in the delivery market, including:

  • Rising demand for package deliveries but limited new driver experience.
  • Slow, manual route planning and over-reliance on driver knowledge.
  • Undefined delivery windows leading to low levels of customer satisfaction.

Webinar participants will hear how the solution is designed to address these issues with automatically generated, optimized routes that meet delivery SLAs, give drivers turn-by-turn directions and generate data across each area of delivery operations.

Typically, traditional delivery operations have relied upon manual inputs. Zebra’s ROS automatically integrates the customer delivery manifest, address checks and geocodes. Using the integrated mapping engine, it calculates coordinates for each stop and the most efficient delivery route for drivers. On average, ROS route planning takes 30 minutes – a saving of two and a half hours per driver, per day.

The solution also means companies can rely on optimized routes so they can change their hiring profiles during peak times to prioritize customer service skills over local area knowledge. In addition, ROS responds to the issue of undefined or inaccurate customer delivery windows. Based on departure time, distance and route progress, it creates a 2-hour Estimated Delivery Window, which can be sent via the client to the customer.

In pilot projects, ROS has delivered a 71% increase in user productivity by cutting delivery planning time, reducing return trips and allowing operations teams to monitor and alter processes based on real-time data.
