Don't miss 'Late Debate: Women of the Future!' at London Transport Museum

29 January 2018/Categories: CILT, Industry News

2018 marks 100 years since women in Britain were given the right to vote for the first time. Driven by the suffragist and suffragette movements, this was a major step towards equal voting rights for all women and men, achieved in 1928.

To recognise this momentous period in history, London Transport Museum and Transport for London are organising a festival of talks, debates, immersive experiences and workshops. Celebrating women’s contribution to society over the past 100 years and debating the progress we are making towards equality in the 21st century.

Highlights and activities include:

Keynote by Justine Simons, OBE - Deputy Mayor, Culture and the Creative Industries

An expert-packed panel debate to find out what’s happening to drive gender equality in transport, exploring the inequalities women still face and the action that needs to be taken. Ann Gavaghan, Design and Development Manager at TfL, will host the debate with Adeline Ginn, Founder of Women in rail; Lauren Sager Weinstein, Chief Data Officer at TfL; Philippa Oldham, Head of National Network Programmes at Advanced Propulsion Centre UK; Sam Mullins, Director of London Transport Museum; Staynton Brown, Director of Diversity and Inclusion Transport for London; Valerie Todd, Talent and Resources Director at Crossrail.

A Futures Marketplace featuring a diverse range of handpicked organisations, trailblazers and changemakers including Bikes and Bloomers; Buttress and Snatch; Fawcett Society; the Feminist Library; London West End Women’s Institute; LTM’s Enjoyment to Employment; Weston Williamson Architects; Women’s Equality Party; Bishopsgate Institute

A history class on women’s rights and feminist facts with Claire Kennan, Citizens 800 Project at Royal Holloway, University of London.

All aboard for Equalia! Join Catherine Mayer, co-founder of the Women’s Equality Party and author of ‘Attack of the 50 Ft. Women’ on a journey to the gender-equal future. Is there a fast track to gender equality and what should we expect when we reach our destination?

Dynamic PechaKucha presentations on trailblazers, bikes, and bloomers; stand-up comedy by the LOL Word; a pop-up bar and the chance to explore our collections after hours, including the exhibition Poster Girls – a century of art and design, celebrating 20th and 21st century female graphic designers.
