Web developer creates map that details where every Tube train is on the London underground

A web developer has created a fascinating map that details exactly where every Tube train is on the London underground network at any given time.

Matthew Somerville, 37, spent hours working on the interactive tool which overlays the exact locations of Tube trains onto TfL's official Tube map.

He set up the map saying "it doesn't really have a purpose" but that he wanted to create a way to visualise freely available data from TfL's API - data that allows the creation of apps and other software.

Mr Somerville, from Manchester, created a different version of his map in 2010, one which shows the locations of Tube trains on top of a traditional geographic map of London.

He warned people that his map is "not totally accurate" and should not be used as a replacement for official Tube times.

Earlier this year, Daniel Silva, 26, created a series of designs detailing the exact depths of various stations on the London underground.

The illustrations, based on Harry Beck's iconic 1931 Tube map, also show each station entrance's height above sea level.

The graphic designer, from Pimlico, said he plotted the diagrams "out of sheer curiosity" after wondering on his daily commute on the Victoria line, "How deep underground am I?"

"I've always been fascinated by Tube maps," he added.

You can view the map here.
