Kevin Richardson, Chief Executive, CILT, encourages all members to read the recently released government guidance report that outlines how UK haulage companies, drivers and freight services would be affected if the UK leaves the EU with no deal.
Within the guidance report: Commercial road haulage in the EU if there's no Brexit deal, a number of technical notices sets out information to allow businesses and citizens to understand what they would need to do in a ‘no deal’ scenario, so they can make informed plans and preparations.
The guidance covers many of the sectors CILT represents, including, Aviation, Ports and Rail Freight. Key takeaways include:
•
The importance of hauliers considering whether they need permits to haul goods internationally
•
Understand and adhere to the new trailer registration requirements
•
Consider the likelihood of exchanging UK CPC with EU CPC
•
Become familiar with the requirements for importing and exporting goods, especially agrifood goods
It is in the interests of both the UK and the EU to make sure that an agreement is reached to enable businesses to continue to operate in each other’s market as easily as possible. That remains the goal on both sides and we remain optimistic of a good deal. However, it is the job of a responsible Government to prepare for all scenarios.
Kevin would like to remind all members that this is not a standalone notice and hauliers and businesses should read other relevant notices. Your Institute will continue to keep you up-to-date with the latest guidance to ensure we are prepared for Brexit, under any scenario.
